MEGAN HURLEY

Megan Hurley will never be forgotten, she was a bright, innocent and caring 15 year old who loved life until it was so cruelly taken away from her, along with 21 others during the horrific terror attack at the Manchester Arena on 22nd May 2017. Those who had the privilege to meet Megan will know what a loving and beautiful girl she was, Megan was well known for her caring nature and loved to help others.

Megan’s parents, Joanne and Mike Hurley have set up the Megan Hurley Foundation to make sure that Megan is remembered in a positive way as the fun loving beautiful daughter she was and the charity will uphold Megan’s strong values to help others, as well as ensuring her name will live on through the charity.

MEGAN’S PARENTS

Megan’s parents, Michael and Joanne Hurley, were a hardworking, self-employed family, running a popular local sandwich shop for over 9 years. Their world was torn apart on 22nd May 2017 when they lost their much-loved daughter Megan and their son, Bradley aged 20, was also critically injured in the terror attack at the Manchester Arena.
During the attack Bradley suffered broken legs and multiple injuries and spent over a month at Manchester Royal Infirmary with his Mum and Dad at his bedside. After over a month in hospital Joanne and Michael returned home with their son and dedicated their lives to his rehabilitation, having no option but to close the family business.

THE MEGAN HURLEY FOUNDATION

To this day Joanne, Michael and Bradley continue to receive support and kind messages and are so very grateful. However, anyone who has suffered a loss will know that there are unplanned expenses and further there is little support for the self-employed. The Megan Hurley Foundation will aim to provide initial short-term help and support to self-employed families, unable to attend work (and therefore have no income), due to the sudden and unexpected loss of a child.  The Megan Hurley Foundation may also provide help and support to other good cause that will benefit children. The Trustees will agree eligibility for those requiring help and support.

THE MEGAN HURLEY OFFICIAL PIN BADGE

Whilst Bradley was recovering in hospital he decided to help raise funds for a memorial garden that was being erected at Halewood Academy, the school that Megan attended. Bradley was in his second year at University studying Graphic Design so put his skills into motion. Bradley immortalised his favourite picture of his sister, Megan into a charity pin badge. All 500 pin badge’s sold immediately and raised £2000.00 towards the garden. The pin badge is now the symbol of The Megan Hurley Foundation (Charity 1179487). The pin badge has been worn with pride by many celebrities including; HRH Prince William, Simon Cowell, John Bishop and many more. The pin badge is no longer for sale but anyone who organises and raises funds for the Megan Hurley Foundation will be awarded a pin badge.
